Dr. Allen Frances (find him on Twitter!) is the author of the illuminating book, The Twilight of American Sanity. We talk in great depth about how we arrived at this place in time politically and culturally. We cover the recent insurrection, the COVID crisis, the cult-like mentality of Trump’s core support, as well as the former president.
Dr. Frances is a clinician, educator, researcher, and leading authority on psychiatric diagnosis. He chaired the DSM-IV Task Force, was a member of the Task Force that prepared DSM-III-R, and wrote the final version of the Personality Disorders section in DSM-III. The author of hundreds of papers and more than a dozen books, Dr. Frances is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. He blogs frequently on Huffington Post, Psychology Today, and Education Update.
His books have enlightened and illuminated me on several topics. Dr. Frances is also a tireless advocate for justice and democracy.
