Roger Nygard joins the show to talk about his wonderful book, The Truth About Marriage, and share his insights on relationships. We also touch on his film work, his directing, and his work on the award winning series, Curb Your Enthusiasm. Roger has some real pearls of wisdom here and it was a heck of a lot of fun.
Roger Nygard is perhaps best known for his acclaimed documentaries Trekkies and Trekkies 2, about the most obsessive fans in the Universe. Nygard has also directed television series such as The Office and The Bernie Mac Show.
His work as a film editor includes Grey’s Anatomy, The League, and Emmy-nominated episodes of Who Is America? and Veep and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Nygard has made several other award-winning films including the car-salesman cult-film Suckers, a profile of UFO fanatics in Six Days in Roswell, and the documentary The Nature of Existence, which untangles the world’s philosophies, religions, and belief systems. And then Nygard tackled a subject even more inexplicable than existence itself: The Truth About Marriage. The film was accompanied by a similarly titled book, which gets to bottom of why relationships are so darn hard for everybody. Nygard also co-produced and edited The Comedy Store, a Showtime documentary series about the comedians who came though this world-famous LA club.
Next up Nygard is editing: Curb Your Enthusiasm season 11, and the HBO miniseries The White House Plumbers. And being published soon is his new book, Cut to the Monkey, about making and editing hit comedy series.
