This is an inspired conversation with independent filmmaker Ryann Liebl (find her on IMDb and Instagram!). She talks about her wonderful new buddy comedy, Mags and Julie Go On A Road Trip. We also talk about creativity in the time of COVID, the film business, finding one’s voice, and so much more. This show was deep and a whole lot of fun.
Ryann Liebl is an award-winning actress, successful filmmaker, writer and director, whose longstanding career has culminated in the launch of her production company REL Films and its first feature Mags & Julie Go On A Road Trip, dropping Thanksgiving 2020 on iTunes and Amazon Prime.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Liebl started acting at 14 and was landing roles in theater by the age of 16. At 18, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting dreams full time. While a student at USC School of Theater, minoring in Film, Ryann studied under renowned acting teacher Milton Katselas, who pushed her to pursue writing, directing and filmmaking.
Since first guest starring on Buddy Faro (CBS) with fellow Midwesterner Dennis Farina, she has worked on projects with John Travolta, Zachary Quinto, Joe Manganiello, John Michael Higgins, among many others.
Applying everything she’d learned, Ryann started producing and directing, founding her own production company REL Films. Mags & Julie Go On A Road Trip, filmed entirely in her home state of Wisconsin with an all-Wisconsin crew, is her first project. The woman directed, written and produced movie has already been compared to Planes, Trains and Automobiles and the National Lampoon Vacation movies. It’s a laugh out loud comedy with heart, entertaining for all audiences available for pre-order during October 2020 on iTunes.
REL Films now has over ten features in development and slated for production.
